COMMUNITY MEETING: STOP THE DEMOLITION OF RICHMOND PUBLIC HOUSING

The Victorian Labor Government has announced that the demolition and privatisation of public housing in Richmond has been brought forward, starting with the homes at 139 Highett Street, 111, 119 and 127 Elizabeth Street, 6 and 8 Anderson Court and 1-5, 7 and 9 Williams Court.

This means some Richmond residents are being pressured to move soon.

We understand Labor’s plan is to demolish the buildings in 2026 and for a private developer to build mostly private, expensive housing on this land. The new buildings may include some community housing, but no public housing. Community housing is more expensive and less secure than public housing.  The Government has not guaranteed that existing residents will be able to return.

If we come together now, before they tear apart the community, we believe we can stop the Labor Government moving you from your home and destroying public housing.

Join us for an emergency community meeting on Thursday October 3 to plan how we can work together to save public housing. Please join us from 5.30pm at The Factory, 19 Belgium Ave, Richmond. Snack food provided.
