Since 2022 Victoria’s Pride Street Party has transformed Gertrude and Smith Streets into a vibrant, jam-packed, free, all-ages block party showcasing local and international artists, local traders and community groups. It has become a cornerstone of Melbourne’s cultural calendar and an important annual event for our diverse LGBTQIA+ community.
In 2025, the Greens asked for confirmation that funding for the Pride Street Party would continue beyond 2026 but we received no clear answer. We joined with the community to campaign to Save Our Street Party.
UPDATE, FEBRUARY 2026:
After months of pressure from the Greens and the community, the state government finally announced their intention to continue our beloved Pride Street Party in Collingwood and Fitzroy!
While the commitment is a huge win, unlike in 2022, Labor hasn’t said how much or for how long their support will continue, instead, hanging their commitment on this year’s election result. It begs the question: if LGBTIQA+ rights matter, why are they negotiable to Labor? Instead of waiting and making funding for Pride contingent on the election outcome, Labor should lock in the next four years of funding now.
Our community absolutely loves hosting this event and we want it to continue.
We call on the Victorian Government to commit to an extra four years of funding in this May’s budget. Keep Pride Street Party alive!
