96% of Australian rentals aren’t affordable for teachers, hospo workers and nurses. 

Thanks to pressure from the Greens, the government is finally listening to the growing movement of renters demanding fairer conditions. Last year we secured:

• A ban on rental bidding to make finding a home fairer
• An end to no grounds evictions so renters can’t get kicked out for no reason
• An effective empty homes tax across Victoria to make more homes available for renters and first home buyers
• Airbnb and short stays regulations to there are more homes for people to live in

But as long as your landlord can jack up your rent however much they like – there will always be a power imbalance.

While Labor tinkers around the edges, renters are drowning in unlimited rent increases. The only way to make renting truly fair is to make unlimited rent increases illegal.

The Greens have a plan to make renting affordable with a 2-year rent freeze, and capping further increases.

Together, we’ve secured some really important outcomes for renters including an end to no grounds evictions and banning rental bidding. There’s no reason Labor can’t introduce rent controls.
