About the rally:
The Labor Government wants to demolish and privatise all 44 public housing towers in Victoria, starting with the Flemington and North Melbourne towers.
Residents were shocked by the announcement when it was made a year ago and they still don’t have answers about why this is happening or what their future holds. The Labor Government’s plan will displace over 10,000 public housing residents – in the middle of a housing crisis – and tear apart vibrant, beautiful communities.
Residents have been telling us they want to stay and this is our chance to support them!
Join us on Saturday 19 October to let the Flemington and North Melbourne community and all public housing residents know, they are not alone.
We’ll come together and rally to #StopTheDemolition and #SavePublicHousing.
Meet us on the grassed area behind 126 Racecourse Rd, Flemington for an 11.30am start. There will be food, music and speeches followed by a Solidarity Walk to 33 Alfred Street North Melbourne.
It’ll be a family-friendly affair, so bring your friends, your placards (and remember to bring water and a hat).
Rally partners include:
Renting and Housing Union
Black Peoples Union
Save Public Housing Collective
Friends of Public Housing
100% Public Housing
The Greens
Victorian Socialists
Socialist Alliance
Please get in touch with any accessibility requirements.
If you would like to volunteer on the day, or help with leafletting over the next two weeks, please let us know – all help is welcome!
This rally will be taking place on the stolen land of the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung People. We acknowledge that sovereignty has never been ceded. Always was, always will be.
