Save Public Housing Rally – Sat 30 May – 11am State Library, march to Atherton Gardens Estate, Fitzroy for 1pm festival
Public housing residents have the right to a safe secure & affordable home. The Victorian Labor Government’s plan to demolish all 44 of the state’s public housing towers, 12 of which are in my electorate of Richmond, will devastate communities and forcibly displace residents.
All during a housing affordability crisis.
In 2025, a parliamentary inquiry secured by the Greens, revealed that it’s “impossible for the government to justify this decision”. The Victorian Labor Government and Homes Victoria have been opaque and belligerent throughout this process, withholding documents from the inquiry and from public scrutiny.
Read more about the inquiry’s findings and an update on demolitions here.
A majority of experts agree – this plan makes no sense on human rights, environmental, sustainability, community or economic grounds. The current towers are built to last, and refurbishing them would be a much better option.
The Greens will continue to fight for public housing residents and their homes. But we need your help.
