In the middle of busy Alexandra parade lies a green refuge from the bitumen. Now Labor wants to turn this precious green space into a parking lot. We need to save the Alexandra Pde green space.

As part of their disastrous plan to sell off the Fitzroy Gasworks to private developers, the Victorian Labor Government will bulldoze the trees and the grass that separates the busy Alexandra Pde traffic lanes and fill it with more concrete for car parking.

Despite the objection of Greens Councillors, in May 2024 Yarra City Council voted to approve the destruction of the green space to create a parking lot. The parking is linked to the proposed Fitzroy Gasworks development on the cornder of Alexandra Pde/Smith St. This project is contentious as the state government initially promised public housing as part of that development, but they have since backed away from those plans.
